A jármű leírása
For Sale: my dear Alfa !
Seeing this 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT at a classic car event in 1998 here in the Netherlands, I was immedialtely attracted by its apparent untouched originality.
Only 2 weeks before, the seller had bought it from the first owner in Rovigo, Italy. After more than 25 years of companionship, I hope to find a dedicated new owner for whom this car represents exactly what he or she has been searching for.
Amongst experts, there is widespread agreement that the first version of a famous car design often turns out to be the purest and most appreciated expression of its creator – in this case done in 1962 by the young Giorgetto Giugiaro, working at Bertone.
A slightly upgraded version – the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce - was launched in 1966.It had a slightly more powerful version of the famous aluminium DOHC Nord engine that had just 3hp extra horsepower (108 instead of 105) and was merely a commercial trick to allow the Veloce affix. In fact, the main improvement of the Veloce seemed to be the wonderful new design of the side-braced bucket seats.
BUT on the other hand……….….many afficionados of the model will probably have a serious problem with “cheapness” of the Veloce’s vinyl foiled imitation-wood dashboard and its “modernized” steering wheel with the gold-plated plastic hub, both clear detractions of the original designs.
And last but not least, the most discerning difference of the original 1962 design over the later Veloce version is without any doubt the chromed injection moulded Zamac grill that simply beams so much more character and quality !
This specific 1965 Giulia Sprint GT has a number of very rare original features that are listed below……but first it is worthwhile mentioning that this Alfa has undergone a complete professional restoration, including :
Complete overhaul of the matching numbers 1600cc engine in Netherlands’ top engine shop Van Rijn Motorrevisie in Cruquius done by Dirk van der Endt Braat himself – done less than 2000 problemless kilometers ago.
New Mahle pistons and cylinder bushes, inline boring, new bearings, new distribution chain, new hardened valve seats, new valves, new oil seals and gaskets throughout.Complete gearbox overhaul including new bearings, synchromesh rings and seals.
Bare metal underbody restoration including floor pans and 100% correct sills reconstruction – NO tectyl or coating applied except inside hollow sections. All new suspension bushes, silent blocks and suspension rubbers.
Complete brake system overhaul including new master cylinder, new vacuum unit, new Girling front wheel cylinder seals, new front discs, new rear wheel cylinders and all new Inconel brake lines and flexibles. 4 new adjustable red Koni dampers. Zero-play original Burmann steering box with new oil seals and steering joints throughout. Four new Engelbert tyres sized 185-70-15.
As indicated above, this first series car has a number of exceptional original features that may be unimportant or even futile to the average Alfa enthusiast but will appreciated very much the Giulia Sprint GT connoisseur:
1 It has the original first series rechromed zamac grille and rear lights
2 Front seats and back seat have the original cognac-brown vinyl
upholstery, whereas the seat centers and and back rests have been renewed
using the correct original ochre-brown wool fabric
3 The doors are equipped with the original – very rarely surviving – single
piece cognac-brown armrests provided with new interior filling
4 All interior panels and dashboard have the original upholstery details and materials. The floor carpeting has been replaced by the correct type and colour velvet carpeting
5 On top of the floor carpet, the car has the 4 ORIGINAL cognac-brown
rubber mats
6 All original dashboard instruments, switches and signalling lamps are in perfect working condition
7 The boot has the original gray rubber mat lining and contains the original
jack and fixture
8 The hood is equipped with the original ratched elbow support that seldom
survives the test of time
9 The car has been professionally resprayed in the original GRIGIO
GRAPHITE AR716 (graphite gray) from paint supplier Glasurit
IN SHORT : What a joy to find this extremely original 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT in this superb colour combination !
I expect that the serious prospect buyer may have a number of questions that I will gladly answer by mail or by phone. I will also be glad to explain a number of reversible and hidden improvements that I have made to the car and a few details that may be improved if you plan to upgrade the car to concours condition……
Best regards,
